APMA Pilates Education
- The APMA philosphy to education is to provide course participants with a conceptual
methodology to teaching rather than a purely repertory based approach to learning.
- Encourages a 'don't give a person a fish, but teach them how to fish' perspective
- Encourages students through supervised teaching and mentoring programs to
be embracing of a diversified approach to the Method.
- Is delivered through accredited course providers is all states of Australia
- Graduates are eligible for full membership at a Level Two entry to the APMA
- Provides a flexible approach to learning including time frames, methods of
delivery etc
Pre-requisites
Tertiary level anatomy and physiology, or equivalent
- 50 hours' prior personal practice with an instructor, including Pilates equipment
repertoire
- Fitness Level 2 First Aid and CPR
Program
- The course runs part time over a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 18 months with
a minimum of 130 contact hours
- 14 hours of observation time in an APMA equipment-based studio
- Successful completion of the APMA Level 1 Pilates Instructor Course and APMA
Level 1 Membership requires a minimum of 200 hours Supervised Personal Practice
(a minimum of 50 hours to be completed before course commencement). 50% of these
hours maybe undertaken with non APMA Pilates professional teachers
- 200 hours of documented supervised teaching apprenticeship (including minimum
100 hours with APMA level 2, 3 or 4 instructor). The remaining 50% of the required
hours may be undertaken with non APMA Pilates professional teachers

- Functional and applied anatomy
- Assessment procedures
- Teaching methodology
- Original exercises to modern interpretations
- Common difficulties, postural differences
- Biomechanics and Common Pathologies
- Studio management, ethics and safety standards
National Registration Examination
- Is held in all capital cities twice yearly. (2nd Saturday of May and November)
- Is open to instructors who have completed a course of study in Pilates Method
- Meets a minimum Level One Associate Teacher requirements (see membership)
- Includes a written and practical component
- Provides direct entry into Level Two Teacher membership and corresponding
benefits (see membership)
