Levels of Membership

Associate Membership

  • For anyone interested in the Pilates Method. This is non-voting membership level that provides access to workshops, courses and industry information. You will receive the APMA Newsletter and can attend APMA annual general meetings.

Student Membership

  • For students currently enrolled in a Pilates Instructor Course
  • Valid for 2 years from the time of enrollment in a course
  • Benefits include
    • APMA Newsletter
    • Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapy
    • Member discounts to APMA continuing education workshops
  • Student members are not entitled to voting rights with the association

Level One - Associate Teacher Membership

  • For teachers who have completed courses not directly recognized by the association
  • Valid for 3 years
  • Requirements include
    • Successful completion of a program of study
    • A minimum of 500 hours of experience in the teaching of the Pilates Method
    • Current Senior First Aid Certificate or equivalent
    • Current Professional Indemnity and Public Liability insurance
    • Members are required to maintain continuing education credits as set by the APMA
    • Upgrade to Level Two upon successful completion of the National Registration Examination
  • Benefits include
    • APMA Newsletter
    • Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapy
    • Member discounts to APMA continuing education workshops
  • Level One members are not entitled to voting rights within the association

Level Two - Teacher Membership

  • For teachers who have completed courses accredited by the association
  • Requirement include
    • Successful completion of a program of study
    • A minimum of 1000 hours of experience in the teaching of the Pilates Method
    • Completion of the National Registration Examination (held twice a year)
    • Current Senior First Aid Certificate or equivalent
    • Current Professional Indemnity and Public Liability insurance
    • Members are required to maintain continuing education credits as set by the APMA
  • Benefits include
    • APMA Newsletter
    • Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapy
    • Member discounts to APMA continuing education workshops
    • Voting rights within the association
    • Sit on sub committees and council

Level Three - Professional Practitioner

  • For teachers who have completed courses accredited by the association
  • Requirements include
    • Successful completion of a program of study
    • A minimum of 3500 hours of experience in the teaching of the Pilates Method
    • Completion of the National Registration Examination (held twice a year)
    • Current Senior First Aid Certificate or equivalent
    • Current Professional Indemnity and Public Liability insurance
    • Members are required to maintain continuing education credits as set by the APMA
  • Benefits include

    • Voting rights within the association

Level 4 - Professional Practitioner

  • For teachers who have completed courses accredited by the association

    • A minimum of 7500 hours of experience in the teaching of the Pilates Method
    • Completion of the National Registration Examination (held twice a year)
    • Current Senior First Aid Certificate or equivalent
    • Current Professional Indemnity and Public Liability insurance
    • Members are required to maintain continuing education credits as set by the APMA

National Registration Examination
The APMA National Registration Examination occurs twice a year in May & November. All interested parties are required to supply APMA membership application form with supporting documentation prior to sitting the NRE Process. Please contact the Administrator to find out more details.
