COVID-19 UPDATE 11 May 2020

Dear Members,

We understand that we are feeling frustration and uncertainty with the news surrounding the National Governments relaxing of restriction’s as detailed by the Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Friday 8th May 2020.

At writing, we have had no confirmation from any source that we have contacted, with regards to the reopening of Pilates Studios, so we urge you to continue to follow the guidelines as stipulated by your local and state governments. We have provided links to these below.

From our communication last week; we are currently seeking communication and clarification from Dr Lisa Studdert, Deputy Secretary, Australian Government Department of Health with regard to new information that has come to light surrounding “gyms/indoor fitness centres”.

We are working together with the PAA and an Advocacy Expert in relation to the definition of Pilates and what Pilates Practitioner’s do, so that this is clear to all government bodies.

You may also be aware that a couple of weeks ago we (in conjunction with the PAA) sent a letter to the Federal and State Health Ministers and the Minister for Industry, proposing a phased return to business operations for our members. Phase 1 would be a return to private sessions 1:1, taught within required indoor social distancing and hygiene guidelines. In this letter we are also seeking clarity and appropriate “health service” classification for Pilates, taught in a professional studio environment.

As each State has local jurisdiction, we are awaiting individual responses from State Ministers and will keep you all informed of any changes. We are doing all that we can to get all of our members back to into their business and back to “normal”.

Again we appreciate each members feedback and opinion and please know that we are doing all that we can to fight for our industry.

Warmest Regard’s,

APMA Council.
