Emma Raducanu celebrates dominant victory over Blinkova at Queen’s Club

Emma Raducanu buoyant after thumping win over Blinkova at Queen’s

Emma Raducanu is optimistic that her impressive start to the grass-court season will serve as a foundation for future success. She secured her place in the second round at Queen’s Club with a commanding 6-0, 6-3 win over Anna Blinkova, a qualifier.

“It was a really good stepping stone, and the way I was feeling on the court, the way I was moving, the way I was expressing myself, just the whole package, not necessarily the tennis, just how I kind of was acting on the court, I really enjoyed it,” Raducanu expressed. “That’s something that I want to take forward in all of my matches and really embrace this grass-court season.”

This match marked Raducanu’s first competition since her first-round exit at the hands of Solana Sierra at the French Open two weeks ago. She is looking to rebound after facing challenges earlier in the year, including a prolonged absence of over two months due to a post-viral illness. The world No. 42 had returned to the circuit just a week prior to the French Open, where she was visibly emotional during her press conference when discussing the mental strain caused by multiple injuries in her young career.

Raducanu’s Performance and Preparation

After two weeks of training for the grass season, the 23-year-old showcased a transformed performance. She executed her shots with clarity and aggression, taking the ball early and effectively utilizing her forehand to assert dominance from the baseline.

“We have been working day in, day out since I started training again, and even throughout the clay season we have been working and putting good shifts in each day,” she detailed. “You don’t know when it’s going to pay off. It’s work that’s compounded over the last few weeks. “Of course there is a lot more work to do, but I’m really just trying to enjoy the process, despite the results, keep showing up each day with the best attitude and the best commitment I can.”

“Recovery going in the right direction, but I’m going to give myself one more week and aim to return at Eastbourne. Very hard to miss one of my favourite events of the year,” she added.

Other Matches and Players

In addition to Raducanu’s success, Katie Boulter also progressed to the second round after a thrilling comeback. She rallied from a set and a break down, ultimately overcoming the eighth seed, Leylah Fernandez, with a score of 3-6, 7-6 (4), 7-5.

Jack Draper, however, faced continued setbacks as he withdrew from the men’s Queen’s Club event that is set to commence on Monday. The 24-year-old has been sidelined since injuring his knee two months ago during the early stages of the clay-court season, shortly after recovering from a serious arm injury sustained in February.

“Recovery is going in the right direction, but I’m going to give myself one more week and aim to return at Eastbourne. Very hard to miss one of my favourite events of the year,”

Draper stated in a message.
