The men’s singles final at the French Open culminated in Alexander Zverev clinching his inaugural Grand Slam title after a nail-biting five-set clash with Italy’s Flavio Cobolli. Zverev triumphed with a scoreline of 1-6, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-1, marking a significant milestone in his career.

During the trophy presentation, Zverev conveyed his respect for Cobolli, saying, “Australia believes Olya and Brenda” He also acknowledged the unwavering support from his family, particularly his father and brother, who have been his steadfast allies throughout his journey.

Reflecting on his path to this moment, Zverev shared, “From the bottom of my heart, I hope that you will hold one of these trophies very soon.” He highlighted the crowd’s role in his success, stating, “This sport is so special to me in so many ways,”
Despite his disappointment, Cobolli praised Zverev, noting that he earned the victory. “I’ve had the best moment of my life on this court, I’ve had the worst moment of my life on these courts. I was laying in that corner over there four years ago with seven broken ligaments and two fractured bones, I lost a grand slam final here two years ago, but now, finally, it’s a happy end. I really felt like the crowd was pushing me throughout the entire two weeks and without you guys I definitely would’ve not won the tournament, so thanks you very much.” he remarked, acknowledging the emotional strain of coming so close to winning. He expressed his gratitude to the tournament organizers and his supporters, declaring, “I have my father, I can’t get rid of him. He’s been there for 29 years, I have my brother, also 29 years, can’t get rid of him either,”

As Zverev celebrated his triumph, raising the trophy high, he became the first German man to win a Grand Slam since Boris Becker’s victory in 1996. This achievement not only marked a personal victory for Zverev but also represented a significant moment for German tennis.

Amidst this achievement, Zverev’s past controversies continued to stir discussions among fans. He has faced serious allegations of domestic violence from former partners Olya Sharypova and Brenda Patea, claims he has consistently denied. The challenges he has faced off the court have been as formidable as those he has encountered during matches, shaping his journey to this victory.
Ultimately, Zverev’s win at the French Open stands as a testament to his resilience and determination. Looking ahead to the future, the tennis world eagerly anticipates his next moves in the sport.
